Roman Name: Juno
Hera is the goddess of marriage and birth. She is wife and sister to Zeus. She was raised
by the Titans, Ocean and Tethys. Hera was not the most attactive goddess, infact she was also known as Bopis, which means
Hera is known for punishing the women Zeus fell in love with. She also took out her anger
on the women's children. For example, when Hercules, son of Zeus and Alcmene, was a baby, Hera tried to kill him by sending
snakes into his crib. With his great strength, Hercules strangled the snakes, which made Hera even more angry.
The cow and the peacock, a symbol of pride, were sacred animals to Hera. Argos is her favorite
city, where her main sanctuary is located.
